Version 3.0 Up and Running

Many of the follower of my 2¢ Worth blog, already know that we've added a second web server to the Landmarks setup. I guess we have a sever farm now, though it's really more of a server backyard garden. But even at that, Citation Machine was stressed off and on through the end of the fall semester.

So, over the past few weeks of not traveling, I've been working on some new programming for CM that breaks it loose from the databases. Now, all of the coding is resident within the program itself and various config files. What this means is that it should run faster.

I have also added a new feature that is more of a beta offering, because I do not know how much it will stress the system. But for years, people have asked about the ability to have CM remember their citations for the sake of later bibliographies. Now you can do that, and here's how:
  1. Click [Register] in the top menu to register for a CM account
  2. If you have already registered, you can use this page to login. If not, type your name and e-mail address, make up a username and password, and select your location.
  3. Click [submit].
  4. Go through the process of generating a citation. When completed, you will see a [Save this Citation] button at the bottom of the page. Click this.
  5. To view your citations, click [See Citations] at the top menu.
  6. From here you can get a listing of the citations with dates generated, or click [Citations Only] to view a copiable version.
Great luck to you!

Just a little feedback on this feature. When all the kinks are worked out it, it will be great. However for right now, the citations don't seem to be propagating like they should. The APA parentheticals are correct... the others aren't.

I am a 6th grade teacher. Are there any online sites out there that are geared to 6th graders?

I'm a high school student as well, and I don't know what I'd do without Citation Machine. My English teacher last year recommended it to me last year and I have not written a single paper without using the Citation Machine. Thank you so much for making citing others' work so easy!

I am eighth grade student of L.A. Ainger Middle School in Florida and your website has been really helpful in my school projects! History Fair, Language Arts Projects, and now my science project! Thank you so much for creating a reliable service.

So...are you still "around"? The site says, "Respect the time & creative effort of those whose information you use." That would seem to refer to citations -- crediting the work of those authors. But what about those who created and maintain the citation machine?

Many thanks for this -- I use it as a starter and then make sure, compared to the MLA handbook, that my citation is correct.

As of August 16th Citation Machine is not working. The site generally appears to be up but it does not allow any entry of content on the sub pages. I use it frequently and find myself in a bind now that it is not available.

Is something wrong with the site? I can't get any of the forms to appear.

This is an awesome feature for those who write college papers weekly. I did one today and I missed it today!

Do you know when it will be working again?

Thanks!

I am using Firefox 3 and the page does not display the APA correctly as it did in Firefox 2. IE states that there is an error on the page:
Line: 20
Character: 1
Error: 'window opener'is null or not an object
Code: 0

I have tried reporting it to Mozilla twice now. I use your machine all the time for my college work, and hate to have to use IE.

Is the site going to be fixed? The citation area shows up in a tiny iframe, and the Citation Type menus don't expand beyond the first few items in Firefox 3.

As of December 7th, 2008, the menu on the left panel does not appear at all. Clicking the option on top which is provided if the left panel doesn't appear does not do anything either. Tested on Safari, OS X Tiger, multiple connections. Please fix this ASAP.

I use your generator quite frequently for my online classes, and I thank you for your efforts. However, the left panel has not been showing up lately. Any idea why this might be?

Thanks again for your selfless endeavors!

I love using the machine! One question - how can I get rid of the advertisement that runs through the right side of my reference? It doesn't seem to have a "close" button to get rid of the thing!

Citing a government publication, I enter the agency name (Federal Trade Commission), but it does not appear in the finished citation. Any ideas?

I have been trying feverishly to get some citations this evening in APA style and the Ads on the citation page go right over the page and it prints that way to. I went to other sites but no site is as good as yours. I am desperate....can you fix this quickly....
